The Butterfly and the Pig
153 Bath St, Glasgow G2 4SQ, Scotland • +44 (0141) 221-7711 • Map • WebsiteThis is one for lovers of all things retro. Cosy rather than grand this loveable tea room above the restaurant of the same name features mismatched furniture and an eclectic mix of china and cutlery. You may well get a tea stand but it is unlikely that it will stand straight on your table. The teapots come with cosies on and the whole atmosphere brings to mind ladies in hats and talcum powder. The sandwiches are more like doorstops than refined slivers of cucumber and white bread. The scones are huge and quite tasty but the cream is not clotted. I suspect they do cakes better than the whole afternoon tea thing but it is worth a visit for the decor and is a lovely cosy place from which to watch the Glasgow rain!
