Mellis Cheesemongers

Iain Mellis began his Scottish cheese empire in Edinburgh in 1993 with a store in Victoria Street in the Old Town. This proved so popular that he soon expanded to his shop in Glasgow on the Great Western Road where he had a cellar perfect for ripening the cheeses he bought in from Europe. I spent many happy hours in this shop while working in Glasgow. It is gloriously old fashioned and has helpful staff and lots of sample tastings. It is possible to shop here and taste your way all around the United Kingdom and Europe by cheese. Mellis also stocks a great collection of hams and salamis from France, Italy and Spain and some great bread and fruit as well (he is well aware of the great combination of a ripe pear and an oozing brie).
