Zibetto
1385 6th Ave, New York NY , USA • Map • WebsiteZibetto have kept things very simple. There are no chairs, no tables and the shop itself is so narrow that you could easily miss it. However on weekdays from 7am you can follow the stream of enthusiastic Australian bankers as they line up here for their early morning fix. Trust the Australians to find and appreciate the best coffee in town.
We have visited Zibetto twice this year - once during a howling blizzard in February and more recently on a sunny afternoon when I took my take away latte to a bench in Central Park. Both times the lattes were perfection - served with a nice pattern and perfectly foamed milk.
On my latest visit I met an enthusiastic local downing her cappucino at the marble bar in true Italianate style. She swears by the Zibetto product and says it gives her a little taste of Italy every day.
I noted that the menu also offers an Italian style Cioccolata that really does need to be tried next time a blizzard passes through. There is a basic line in pastries to go with your coffee but really this place is all about getting your fix in minimal surroundings as quickly as possible before heading off to finish your day.
My one criticism is that the coffee itself tasted a little too smooth and almost bland. Perfectly espressed, perfect foamed milk but perhaps Zibetto could pour some of its no doubt handsome profits into some better quality beans?
