The g

Galway is a beautiful seaside town on the western coast of Ireland. It has some lovely restaurants and shops and is close to the superb beauty of Connemara. And it is home to my favourite ever hotel. The g is such a fabulous place that you may well find it hard to tear yourself away – especially as it has a superb spa as well as its many lounges and restaurant spaces.

The real joy of The g is its brilliantly quirky design. Phillip Treacy is famous as a designer of hats – and indeed some of his hat designs form the artworks in the rooms – but he has proven himself with this project to be a brilliant interior designer as well. He reminds me of Phillip Starck but in a less self conscious and more playful way. A picture tells a thousand words – you will probably get it faster if I post a picture of one of the lounges.

We treated ourselves to a suite complete with a plasma television in the bathroom and a very deep free standing tub. We made good use of both. We also enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel restaurant and spent an afternoon lying in the giant whirlpool in the spa gazing up at a ceiling covered in white origami swans that drifted gently in the thermals.
