Gastro-Hotels
These are hotels whose reputation comes as much from their restaurants as it does from their rooms. Generally they excel in their use of local produce – in places such as Monachyle Mhor they even raise and butcher their own meat.
Given that these hotels probably would end up in two different categories - boutique hotels and restaurants, we've decided to give them their own category to make it easier for you to find the perfect hideaway where you don't ever need to leave the hotel. However where the restaurant is particularly good (for example, the Michelin starred restaurant at Hotel Nimb) you will also find a review of the restaurant in the appropriate section.
You can access our reviews from the list below or the Locations... menu to the left:
In Australia
- The Royal Mail (98 Parker Street, Dunkeld). One of the best meals of my life.
In England
- Lords of the Manor (Upper Slaughter). Tea and scones on the lawn anyone? Country class in the Cotswolds.
In Scotland
- Ardeonaig (South Road, Ardeonaig). Fabulous food with a South African twist.
- Rocpool (14 Culduthel Rd, Inverness). Tiny boutique hotel with intermittently magic food.
- Monachyle Mhor (Balquhidder, Lochearnhead). Funky design combined with great views and truly fabulous locally sourced food.
