Grand Hotels
We used to call this category "Other" hotels. But we thought perhaps that might give the wrong impression - these are definitely not Best Western's on the wrong side of the tracks. Rather they are some of the best hotels you will find in any city in the world, generally with a focus on the older, more established hotels - if part of a chain, they are usually the first one.
You can access our reviews from the list below or the Locations... menu to the left:
In Australia
- Park Hyatt (1 Parliament Square, off Parliament Place, Melbourne). Inconsistent but intermittently excellent.
- The Observatory (89-113 Kent Street, Sydney). Not living up to its reputation.
In England
- Claridge's (49 Brook Street, London). You'll never want to leave.
In France
- Hotel Fouquet's Barriere (99 Ave des Champs-Elysees, Paris). Luxury and service at a level only the French can provide.
In Hong Kong
- The Peninsula Hotel (Salisbury Rd, Kowloon). The best service I have ever experienced.
In Singapore
- Ritz-Carlton Millenia (7 Raffles Avenue). Great pool, great service.
In the USA
- The Plaza Hotel (5th Avenue at Central Park South, New York). Old style class - pity about the view.
- Mandarin Oriental (222 Sansome Street, San Francisco). Tired and dark but great service.
