Ritz-Carlton Millenia

7 Raffles Avenue,   039799, Singapore • +(65) 6 337 8888 • Map • Website

We arrived at the Ritz-Carlton in Singapore thoroughly exhausted after too many weeks of too much fun. As such I can say more about this hotel than many I've visited as I spent a fair amount of our visit doing some dedicated lazing around.

The Ritz-Carlton has large rooms and rather spectacular baths - not so much in terms of size or fittings, but because they are planted right by the window giving you a spectacular view over the harbour and the city. Singapore by night is an impressive sight, and on our first evening there was even more going on as the entire city was celebrating a major festival related to the Chinese New Year. There were fireworks and dancing and a street parade with enormous floats all happening, conveniently enough, right outside our bathroom window and about 20 floors down. The Ritz-Carlton is frequently mentioned as being one of Singapore's most romantic hotels and I suspect these bathrooms may have something to do with that assessment!

The Ritz-Carlton has also spent a huge amount of effort (and no doubt money) to secure some stunning modern art works which are scattered through the public areas of the hotel. We were given a book mark each evening at turn down which featured one of the art works in question and told us a little about them - a charming touch. I particualrly liked the Chihuly glass work in the foyer. Claridge's have a stunning Chihuly piece as well - he is obviously very much an artist de jour.

My one moment of bad service at the Ritz-Carlton was when I spent an afternoon lounging by the (quite beautiful) pool and had to go and find a waiter to order a coconut to drink. The trials of life!

Otherwise service was impeccable. As we were staying in a suite we also had access to a bar near the top floor of the hotel where we enjoyed our breakfast and could also visit in the afternoon for free cocktails and canapés or a light snack. The tea at the hotel was, as I have come to expect from top Asian hotels, top class and loose leaf - served beautifully in silver tea pots with charming silver strainers. We enjoyed a very classy afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton which you can read about in our afternoon tea review.
