Le Fouquet's
99 Av des Champs-Elysees, 75008 Paris, France • +33 (01) 40 69 60 40 • Map • WebsiteFrom the many signed photos of scantily clad celebrities it would appear that Le Fouquet’s has a somewhat racy past. I mention it here solely for the glory that was the pommes frites. The waiter informed me that they were the best in Paris and would you believe, he was right. In my mind a perfect chip should be crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, not too thick and of course salted. These were perfectly cooked and just the right size, and were also dotted with small crystals of sea salt. They were so good they should be illegal. Forget the rest of the meal – just go for the chips!

The Red Book also recommends these other restaurants in Paris:
- Clos des Gourmets. For classic French cuisine with a twist (Source: Observer food magazine)
- L'Ami Louis. The French are renowned for their roast chicken and this is the place to eat it (Source: Observer food magazine)
- Le Châteaubriand. Old brasserie decor, great food, rethinking classic French.
