Russell's Pizza
13 High St, Willunga SA 5172, Australia • +61 (08) 8556-2571 • MapRussell’s restaurant consists of a half ruined cottage with a wood fire oven, another oven outside, a verandah and a shed. Guests sit outside or, if they’re lucky, in the shed. On a cold night fires are lit in oil barrels to keep the diners warm. The menu consists of about five pizzas. They also make a superb salad featuring local olives and almonds. The staff are usually young locals and in general diners bring their own wine (although they do have a small selection available for purchase). The Turkish-style lamb pizza is a creation of genius.
After most people have finished dinner, the large dining room (shed) is mostly cleared of tables and people dance to a variety of music in an equally diverse number of styles.
Russell’s is one of those very special places you would only find in country Australia. It is only open on Fridays and Saturdays (Update: Russell's is now also open Thursday nights during the summer months) and you may need to book months in advance but trust us – it is worth it.
