Targa Bistrot
Lungarno Colombo 7, Firenze, Italy • +39 (055) 677-377 • Map • WebsiteThis restaurant was recommended to me by an Australian High Court judge who lives half the year in Florence. We ended up going here for my brother’s wedding lunch after he and his wife got married in the impressive town hall. It was an intimate wedding lunch of just 8 and the owner and head chef Gabriele was incredibly helpful. We drank some exquisite local chiantis (Chianti Classico del Castello della Paneretta 2000) and ate some fabulously fresh and tasty Italian food. My favourite memory was actually of tripe (not something I usually eat much of) but Gabriele had marinated strips of it for days in lemon and olive oil until it took on the consistency of squid and tasted of sunshine. I’m aware I may not be selling the concept to you – but honestly go and visit, you will be charmed.

The Red Book also recommends these other restaurants in Italy:
- Trattoria Coco Lezzone (Via Parioncino 26, Firenze). A tiny family-run slow food restaurant serving amazing pork loin (Source: Observer food magazine)
- Pizzeria Il Pizzaiuolo (Via de Macci 13, Firenze). For the best Neapolitan Style pizza in Italy (or even the world?)
